Sunil’s Home was established in 2006 to address the critical, increasing needs of orphans in India. Believing that every child deserves a loving home, adequate living conditions, quality medical care, education, and opportunities to develop and realize his/her fullest potential, staff and volunteers of Sunil’s Home commit their time, talents, and resources to help orphans transform their lives and the lives of future generations. Herbert Hoover once said that “Children are our most valuable, natural resource.” We believe they deserve to be protected, nurtured, and treasured. Together we work towards this vision.
The founder of Sunil’s Home, Sunil Kumar, was once an orphan himself. Raised in a local orphanage near Rajahmundry, India, Sunil was provided the care, education, and encouragement needed to build his future. After achieving and using his degree to start a computer learning center, Sunil felt a calling to also help orphaned children and give back to a community that helped him in a time of need. Sunil, along with his wife Kittu, now dedicate their devoted love and full attention toward raising 40 children (and counting) orphaned for various reasons. Sunil’s Home also utilizes the services of local village volunteers who selflessly give time to tutor, cook, clean, sew, and also help care for the children.
To achieve his dream of starting an orphanage, he sought extra work to make the money needed to support his new “larger family”. He aggressively pursued some computer photo-editing projects from Miami Florida over the internet. Carlos and Sandra Osorio, in need of extra help with their photo-retouching and developing business, hired Sunil. After getting to know Sunil, Sandra and Carlos learned of the children Sunil was working so hard to support. Compelled to help the children, the couple spoke with their close friends and began to start an organization to help the orphaned children.
The board members of Sunil’s Home, Lynn Bauer, Matthew Meehan, Rod Hildebrant, Sunny Mullick, Carlos Osorio, and Sandra Osorio, arduously oversee the orphanage’s budget and daily operations as its continued growth allows the rescue of more children from the streets. Sunil’s Home Orphanage has very quickly become a name-recognized organization in the South Florida community. After 2 years of fundraising, Sunil’s Home Orphanage was proud to unveil the opening of its 3500 sq. ft. Educational and Housing facility in July of 2008. The only facility of its kind in the area, Sunil’s Home has become a refuge for not only the orphaned children we house, but for all the hungry and malnourished children in the village who are simply looking for a little food to eat.
